| Laser Hair Removal
Board Certified Dermatologist, Dimitry Khasak
routinely performs Laser Hair Removal from the
comfort of his Manhattan, New York and Jersey
City, New Jersey office.
Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, waxing
and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief. Until now, the only
recognized way to remove hair permanently has been by electrolysis - which
can be tedious, time-consuming and uncomfortable. Laser hair removal safely removes unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and
structures of the skin. Facial and bikini areas are usually completed in
under ten minutes; legs, backs and larger areas can take longer. The use of lasers in dermatology has advanced rapidly over the
past 30 years. Today, lasers have a broad range of dermatologic applications,

The principal applications of lasers in facial skin
rejuvenation are reduction or removal of wrinkles, lines and age spots, to
"resurface" the skin.
The laser (Light Amplification by the Stimulated
Emission of Radiation) is a "light pump". Laser
technology applies
principles of radiation physics to narrowly segregate light of selected
wavelength and "pump" the light radiation to high intensity. These beams of
selected wavelength can be varied in intensity and in the duration of
emitted pulses.
For example, powerful, rapid pulses of the
infrared-wavelength carbon dioxide laser can vaporize targeted skin. The
pulses of the carbon dioxide laser can be directed toward resurfacing skin
without bleeding. The benefits of laser skin resurfacing include
bloodlessness, plus:
-
reduced risk of infection
-
precisely controlled surgical effects
-
one-day outpatient treatment in many instances
After-effects and recovery times vary with different laser
procedures. A dermatologist will explain the risks, after-effects and
benefits of recommended procedures.
Lasers are powerful instruments and laser surgery should be
performed only by a dermatologist or dermatologic surgeon with experience in
the procedure. To learn more about lasers and laser surgery, go to the Web

- You must avoid electrolysis, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to
treatment.
- If you have had a history of peri-oral herpes, prophylactic antiviral

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need from
Board Certified Dermatologist, Dmitry Khasak?
Hair grows in cycles. The number of treatments required depends upon your
skin color and coarseness of the hair. Everyone will require at least 2-3
treatments as the process is only effective on hair during the early growing
cycle. Repeat sessions at either his Manhattan, New York of Jersey City, New
Jersey office will be necessary to treat these follicles when they
re-enter the early growth phase.
How does the laser remove the hair ?
The laser emits an invisible light which penetrates the skin without damaging
it; it is then absorbed by the pigments of the pilous follicle. The laser light
selectively absorbed by the follicle damages its functions and impairs its
ability to fabricate hair. At the level of the pilous follicle, the laser light
absorbed by the pigments is then transformed into heat which damages the hair
but not the surrounding skin.
How safe is laser hair removal ?
Laser hair removal is an effective and proven method. Laser can be used as a
medical device since it can be exactly tuned according each patient's type of
skin, guaranteeing an effective treatment. Observance of instructions and
precautions are essential for safe treatment. Thus, the use of a powerful device
adapted to each skin type allows for effective and safe treatment.
What is the difference between laser hair removal and the other methods of
hair removal ?
Laser hair removal is a technique that makes it possible to treat rapidly and in
the same session a very large area of the body, for a longer period of time and
gradually deteriorating the hair.
Is laser hair removal a permanent solution?
One generally speaks of extended periods of hair removal, with a decrease in the
amount of hair and in their diameter. Thus, after each session and according to,
the area of the body involved, one can notice increasingly long periods
in-between hair removal sessions (4-6 weeks at the beginning and several months
after some sessions). On the whole and after several sessions, hair removal is
virtually complete.
Can anybody have laser hair removal done?
Some types of skins require specific precautions or use of a specific laser
(dark or black skin). Current hair removal lasers cannot remove light or white
hair.
What are the precautions to be taken before a laser hair removal?
It is imperative to stay away from the sun in the weeks preceding a hair laser
removal session, since tan is a contra-indication for the treatment. People
under medication must warn their doctor since some drugs can lead to reaction to
light and require postponement of the laser treatment. The area to be treated
must be shaved three days before the laser hair removal session.
What precautions should be taken following a laser hair removal session?
You will be advised to use a hydrating and anti-redness cream during the hours
following the treatment. Exposure to sun is a contra-indication, a solar shield
must be used in case of sunny weather.
